Kazakhstan: Update: Government will extend second COVID-19 lockdown by two weeks until end of July

Kazakhstan: Update: Government will extend second COVID-19 lockdown by two weeks until end of July | Travel Advisory | Scoop.it
ALMATY, July 13 (Reuters) - Kazakhstan will extend its second coronavirus lockdown by two weeks until the end of July and again offer financial aid to those who have lost their source of income, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on Monday.

Kazakhstan, which reported a major resurgence in COVID-19 and often-related pneumonia cases after lifting restrictions in May, entered a second, albeit less stringent, lockdown on July 5 in an attempt to curb the spread of the virus.

"There are first signs now that the situation is beginning to improve," he said in a tweet. "The next two weeks are important for the full stabilisation of the situation."

The oil-rich Central Asian republic has confirmed almost 60,000 cases of COVID-19 with 375 deaths, and reported shortages of hospital beds and popular medicines. The number of daily new cases fell to 1,646 on Monday from 1,798 on Sunday.

Kazakhstan held a national day of mourning for COVID-19 victims on Monday, flying flags at half-mast and cancelling entertainment programming on local media.

Tokayev said the government would pay 42,500 tenge (about $100) for July to each person who has lost their job amid fresh restrictions. During the previous lockdown in March-May, a quarter of Kazakhstan's 19 million citizens received such aid.

Neighbours Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have also reported new spikes in COVID-19 cases after reopening at about the same time. Uzbekistan has also started a second lockdown while Kyrgyzstan imposed more moderate control measures.

China, France: French government limits Chinese airlines to one passenger flight to France per week in response to restrictions imposed by Beijing

China, France: French government limits Chinese airlines to one passenger flight to France per week in response to restrictions imposed by Beijing | Travel Advisory | Scoop.it
PARIS, July 13 (Reuters) - France's government on Monday started restricting Chinese airlines to one passenger flight to France per week, saying it was acting in response to restrictions imposed by Beijing on French carriers flying to China.

"From July 13, Chinese companies will only be authorised to make one weekly trip," the French embassy in Beijing said on its website. "Discussions are underway between the two governments with a view to reaching a satisfactory solution."

China's state aviation regulator, CAAC, could not immediately be reached for comment.

The French embassy said that three Chinese carriers, Air China, China Eastern Airlines Corp, and China Southern Airlines Co, were each authorised to make weekly flights from Chinese cities to Paris.

It said that, under a June 12 reciprocal arrangement, Air France had been authorised by Beijing to carry out three flights a week to China.

But the embassy said that, in practice, Chinese authorities had only allowed one Air France flight per week to go ahead.

It said France was applying intense diplomatic pressure to get the go-ahead from Beijing for the extra flights. In the meantime, it advised travellers to be prepared for disruption to air links between the two countries.

Passenger flights between France and China were suspended earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Sri Lanka: Update: Fresh COVID-19 outbreak further delays reopening of Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport | Travel Advisory | Scoop.it
Sri Lanka has decided to delay the re-opening of its airport to foreigners a report said, after a new coronavirus cluster developed around a rehabilitation center for drug users and staff who were on leave.

“Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) will not be reopened in mid-August as previously planned,” Prasanna Ranatunga, Tourism and Aviation Minister was quoted by Daily FT, a financial newspaper.

"We cannot give an exact date for the reopening of the airport. The top priority of the government is to contain the spread of COVID-19 and to repatriate Sri Lankans still stranded in various parts of the world."

Sri Lanka has contained the spread of coronavirus through aggressive contact tracing but observers have found gaps in testing compared to successful countries like Vietnam especially in the early stages when testing was confined to a hospital setting.

Philippines: Two-week lockdown set to begin in Navotas City because of COVID-19

Philippines: Two-week lockdown set to begin in Navotas City because of COVID-19 | Travel Advisory | Scoop.it
Navotas City will be placed under a 14-day citywide lockdown amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases, Mayor Toby Tiangco said on Monday.

He said the lockdown will take effect 24 hours after the police assemble a team for augmentation in the city. The tentative start is on July 15.

The mayor said residents of the city will be allowed to leave if they work outside Navotas. Similarly, nonresidents who work in the city will be allowed to enter during the lockdown period. Delivery of goods from outside the city, except for food deliveries, will be permitted.

The city recorded 31 new cases on Sunday, bringing the total to 547 active cases. Tiangco said the city's two isolation facilities are now full after two days of record-high new cases, which prompted local health officials to bring patients to quarantine centers managed by the national government.

He said residents put down their guard when Metro Manila was placed under the relaxed general community quarantine. Local officials are revising city ordinances to impose heftier fines for those who violate rules on wearing masks and social distancing, he added.

"Navotas residents are hardheaded. The parents allow their children to go out in the streets. Some leave their homes for nonessential trips, they don't even wear face masks. Only those going on essential trips will be allowed to go out. Those who loiter will be apprehended."

Navotas has recorded a total of 931 confirmed cases, with 325 recoveries and 59 deaths.

Tiangco said random RT-PCR testing will be conducted during the 14-day lockdown.

Germany, Sweden: Update: German authorities lift quarantine requirement for Swedish travelers

Germany, Sweden: Update: German authorities lift quarantine requirement for Swedish travelers | Travel Advisory | Scoop.it

If you're planning to travel from Sweden to Germany this summer, things just got a little bit simpler.

From early June, Sweden has been the only EU country named as a 'risk area' by Germany, which meant people arriving in Germany from Sweden could be required to quarantine for 14 days. Now, that requirement will be abolished.

The risk area designations are made by the German Robert Koch Institute (RKI), which bases its assessment on several criteria, the key one being more than 50 new infections per 100,000 residents in the previous seven days.

But on Tuesday, the list of risk areas was updated, and Sweden was not among the 126 countries from where travelers should quarantine on arrival in Germany.

That means people can now travel between Germany and Sweden for all reasons, including for tourism or leisure, the German Embassy said in a statement on Tuesday.

Individual federal states have the option of imposing their own restrictions, but the German ambassador to Sweden told the TT newswire that states must follow the national decision to remove the Swedish quarantine.

Myanmar: Update: Government postpones reopening to international commercial flights until at least October

Myanmar: Update: Government postpones reopening to international commercial flights until at least October | Travel Advisory | Scoop.it

According to Myanmar’s National Tourism Development Central Committee vice-president, Myanmar’s airports are unlikely to re-open to international commercial flights until at least October this year. There is no guarantee, however, that even if the country opens its skies to international flights, there will be any takers other than airlines offering repatriation flights. Border closures around the world have grounded entire fleets of planes and put smaller airlines in financial peril.

Domestic flights are currently operating, as in Thailand, but are restricted to Burmese citizens and foreign residents registered to stay and work in the country. Since the end of March, foreign tourists have been stranded in the country waiting for repatriation flights home. Hundreds of Burmese are also waiting overseas for an opportunity to return home with scant flights returning to Myanmar.

Myanmar ‘s government said that when it reopens commercial flights, it will be restricted to routes serving neighboring cities in the ASEAN region and perhaps later, countries across Asia.
